Personal Information

Jean Ann Wright has been sewing and making quilts for over 50 years. She majored in textiles and fine arts at Palm Beach Community College and has combined these two disciplines to become a fiber artist. From 1986 to 2007 she edited an international quilting magazine titled QUILT, plus a variety of special interest quilting titles with the same publishing company. Since retiring from full time editing she has become editor of The Quilting Quarterly for the National Quilting Association and works as a consultant to the fabric industry designing quilts for several major fabric manufacturers. She indulges her artistic side by designing and creating art quilts and experimenting with surface design on her quilts.

Artist Statement

I am a very tactile person. I simply love touching fabric and all kinds of fibers that can be attached to fiber art pieces. Add to that the use of beads, crystals and other findings and I am in my artistic element. I sewed my first designer doll dress to my own skirt when I was 3 years old and haven't put down a needle since. I love color, especially turquoise, and enjoy the challenge of playing with many color palettes in each new quilt. When I teach I try to encourage my students to avoid the safe choices and instead see what new images they can create when they step out of their comfort zone.

Honors/Awards/Exhibitions

Jean Ann is a member of the National Quilting Association, Studio Art Quilt Associates, American Quilters Society, International Quilt Association and the Surface Design Association. She has won awards for best original design at the IQA, Best of Show for Folk Art in Boca Raton, Florida, and numerous other first place awards in local, state, and national exhibitions. She has also taught quilting and judged the International Quilt Association show in Salzburg, Austria and Houston, Texas; plus national shows in England and Canada and numerous regional shows in the United States.
